How to watch YouTube without getting pulled into Shorts
For a more deliberate YouTube session, start with a specific search or channel and set an endpoint. Inside unScroll, you can hide Shorts and recommendations while keeping search and regular videos. Turning off YouTube autoplay is a separate action; it does not itself remove Shorts.
Match the restriction to the distraction
Three routes can extend a viewing session: switching into Shorts, choosing another recommendation and letting the next video play automatically. Decide which route is causing the problem before changing settings. Blocking all of YouTube may be unnecessary if you only need to remove the short-video feed.
If you use YouTube for a tutorial, save the video or channel before starting. Your session then has a destination instead of beginning with a browse through suggestions.
Try a session with a clear finish
- Choose one video or a short list before opening YouTube.
- In unScroll’s YouTube settings, hide Shorts and, if useful, recommendations.
- Turn off autoplay on the YouTube player. Check the setting on each device you use; YouTube documents that devices can have different settings.
- Test search, subscriptions and an ordinary video. At the end of the chosen video, leave or deliberately choose the next item from your list.
Know which app you are changing
The browser filters affect YouTube inside unScroll. They are not an account-wide YouTube setting and do not automatically carry over to the original YouTube app, a television or another browser.
Optional native protection attempts to recognize Shorts in the original app, but device acceptance remains pending. If a tutorial disappears or Shorts remain accessible, record the app version and the route you used. Do not treat a filter as a promise that every future YouTube layout will be recognized.
