What unScroll does, and where its restrictions apply

Reviewed:

unScroll is an independent Android app for using selected Instagram and YouTube features with fewer distracting sections. Browser filters work inside unScroll. Optional protection of original apps is separate, needs Android accessibility permission and has known limitations. unScroll is not affiliated with Meta, Instagram or YouTube.

Browser features

Instagram settings include a DMs Only preset, hiding the Reels feed and choices for Feed, Stories, Saved and Explore. YouTube settings include hiding Shorts and recommendations while keeping search and regular videos. Grayscale is available for Instagram or YouTube inside unScroll.

Focus, schedules, daily limits and session limits currently govern browsing inside unScroll. These filters are not changes to your social account and do not apply automatically in another browser or device. Service interface changes can affect recognition.

Original apps and known limitations

My plan in version 0.5.0 adds temporary pauses, schedules and daily limits across selected Android apps. A daily rule with several apps uses one shared budget. Instagram and YouTube usage inside unScroll also counts. Original-app blocking requires accessibility permission; daily limits require Usage access. Phone acceptance of these additions is pending.

The downloadable release is 0.5.0. Version 0.4.2 had an intermittent Instagram Home curtain failure on the owner’s Vivo phone. Version 0.5.0 adds recovery checks and focused-window recognition, but the revised behavior has not been tested on that phone. The precise original cause remains unconfirmed.

Reels shared by friends are not exempt from native Reels blocking. Original-app recognition, broader device compatibility and several end-to-end phone checks remain pending. Open unScroll after reboot or expiry of its bounded protection grant. These restrictions are not guaranteed to be impossible to disable.

Availability and support

The Android download is an ARM64 APK requiring Android 7.0 or newer. There is no downloadable iPhone version or announced iPhone release date. Android installation can require a system confirmation.

Access conditions and current subscription information are explained on the installation page and in the app. Premium functionality is not universally free. For support, use support@unscroll.pro and describe the app version, device and exact steps without sharing passwords or private conversations.
