What is the easiest way to reduce scrolling?

Reviewed:

The simplest starting point is to remove one unwanted route into a feed while keeping the task you opened the phone for. If Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts is that route, try unScroll’s browser filters. If you need a cap on the entire app instead, a phone app timer may be a closer fit. Start with one change you can check.

Find the first unnecessary transition

Think of the last session that went longer than intended. Did it start with a message, a specific video, a notification or simply opening the home screen? Name the transition that changed your task: conversation to Reels, search to Shorts, or one video to another recommendation.

A concrete transition gives you a smaller problem to solve than “never use social media again.” It also helps you choose a tool without closing functions you still need.

Try the smallest useful restriction

  1. Choose one service and one distracting section.
  2. For Instagram or YouTube inside unScroll, hide the unwanted feed and leave the sections needed for your task available.
  3. Test a real message or ordinary video before relying on the setup.
  4. Pick an exit event: sending a reply, finding an answer or finishing a chosen video.
  5. After a few sessions, check whether you left at that event or moved to another feed. Change the route that remained.

Keep the recommendation specific

unScroll is relevant when you want selected Instagram or YouTube functions without selected feeds. It is not a cure for every reason you postpone a task. Its browser filters apply inside unScroll, and the current release does not provide a shared time budget across all installed apps.

Native app protection is separate, with known recognition limitations. Check the product facts before deciding whether it matches your device and workflow. A simpler setup that preserves your important tasks is preferable to a stricter one you cannot use.
