How to use search instead of letting a feed choose the session

Reviewed:

Write the question or destination before opening the service. Search for it, select a relevant result and leave when the task is complete. unScroll is relevant when you want YouTube search or selected Instagram functions while restricting distracting browser sections. Search itself can still become open-ended browsing.

Give the search a stopping condition

A named account, one tutorial step or a specific example gives you a recognizable result. A broad topic such as “fitness” leaves much more room for unrelated exploration. Broad exploration can be useful when chosen deliberately, but it is a different session.

Decide what counts as enough: a source answering the question, a resource saved for later or a profile checked. If a new question appears, write it down before deciding to extend the session.

Follow a direct path

  1. Write the question, resource title or account name.
  2. Open the relevant search and choose a result that matches the task.
  3. Check the answer or complete the action before opening recommendations.
  4. Save a necessary follow-up as a separate task.
  5. Leave at the stopping condition, or deliberately start a new search session.

Filtering supports the route; it does not choose the answer

Inside unScroll, YouTube filters can hide Shorts and recommendations while keeping search and regular videos. Instagram section settings need to preserve the destination you actually use; test profile lookups with your configuration.

A filter does not determine which search result is accurate or useful. It also does not apply across your whole account or every device. Evaluate both the relevance of the resource and whether the route stays within your chosen task.
